DIY paper pot

when you don't have a pot to put your newly found treasure in, you make one!

here's an easy diy paper pot.

- turn the paper bag inside out (i gently rolled it outward).
- depending on your plant size, fold the bag inward to the desired height.
- have some fun painting it whatever color(s) you desire.

DIY: Tassle Socks

my constantly, crying, baby Reed gives me only a few minutes to do anything creative. when i get the craft bug i quickly have to create something before i easily become frustrated with an idea. since i can't sit in front of my sewing machine--which i desperately desire--i reach for simple diy projects that muster up creative juices and yet keeps me close to baby.

DOLLS

These were Christmas dolls for the girls. I saw a similar from Mer mag and just had to try to make them for the girls. I promised the girls we'd make skirts for the dolls-- I need to make good on that promise! It's sweet that the girls sleep with them every night.

On another note--We'll be moving soon and we are all very excited! These little ones will have a backyard to explore in and use their imagination to make wondrous journeys in :)

fun DIY jersey dresses & a prayer request

i've finally come around to making these cute, simple jersey dresses for the girls. they're so easy to make! i love that the edges can be left raw, so much more easier for me. when time permits, i'd love to make tons more for the girls.

tomorrow we have a family meeting with my grandma's doctor. we're all so anxious and relieved that we get to have more answers to our heart ache. i pray God is glorified and seen in tomorrow's outcome.

DIY Geo Inspired Planter

school is out and we are so excited to enjoy the summer! now that my schedule is a little more open (as open as it can get with 4 kiddos), i have a handful of DIY projects i want to do.

it can get frustrating when i have all these ideas in my head but can't implement them because of a busy schedule. hopefully, i can get through some of them since the craft itch can be soothing and inspiring.

with this little project i had all the supplies at home--i love when that happens! geometric decor has been lovely to see, so i put together a quick geo inspired planter. it added something new to the place, AND in my case, it was totally free! now, let's pray my plant don't die!

what you'll need:

-plain clay planter

-painter's tape

-paint with paint brush

i taped around the vase. just make sure there's no open spaces so the paint don't seep through. i painted, let it dry, then repainted again. i did about 4 coats just to make sure it was thick enough--depending on the paint it could be less coats. once it is completely dry, remove the tape slowly, making sure you press down on the painted part while pulling tape. i accidently tore too quickly and some paint came along with it...i had to repaint that area :/

DIY Patterned Wood Wall Boxes

Had plain wooden boxes in the kids room but they looked too, blah. Decided to draw some simple, kid, neutral patterns--since the kids share a room. Easy, cute, and cheap :)

What you'll need:

-plain wooden boxes

-ruler

-sharpie

Then design whatever your little heart desires!

Smile Moment

Robots and rainbows make me smile...

Made these fun pillows for the kids. Actually, the kids designed them and I just ran it through the machine. It made them so happy which in turn made me happy!

A few things on my mind that'll carry over to a future post, I hope.

1. Pastor kids are always getting a bad wrap. Some grow up to be a stereotypical PK and others (many others) totally defy gravity :)

2. I think being a Mexican-American can sometimes be an identity crisis.

3. Poor City is teething and is miserable. She's the first of our kids to be physically affected (fever, restless, etc) by teething.

4. Living in the city, in a smaller place, brings it's obstacles but it can be fun trying to organize and be a minimalist.

5. Rainy days are beautiful. We really need rain so these drops are God sent. Rainy days are beautiful. Did I already say rainy days are...

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is usually on family day and this year was no different. I almost skipped the kids little "love packages" from us but I just couldn't do it, I had to muster up something quick! Thanks to good'ole Pinterest, I got great, quick, DIY ideas. I made the girls "love" necklaces, out of wire (Story broke hers :/) and I made Rock simple, cute wooden arrows. Thankfully they were a hit and I was happy I didn't bail on the yearly love packages. I made PJ a simple canvas with a favorite quote of ours from "The Lion Witch and The Wardrobe." And he wrote me a poem... I love his poems! I have a collection of them that I need to somehow display. I have some up in our room bulletin board but I need something more creative. When he proposed to me he did it through a poem and it was so wonderful, thoughtful, and creative.

We bought the kids a little $1 mailbox from Target, and attached it next to their bedroom door in preparation for Valentine's Day, but now they want letters from us ALL the time! It's fun seeing them get so excited over little letters to each of them.

I secretly love Valentine's Day. I usually hear people dis it and say things like "Why should I just love and shower that person with gifts only on Valentine's Day?" I would just say, "Yeah don't. Shower them on Valentine's Day, the day before, 10 days after, 3 months after, and tomorrow!" Just think of it as a Reminder Day--reminding lovers to appreciate each other throughout the year.

DIY upgrades

Got this cute little outfit for Story as a gift, but it was just SO pink. Don't get me wrong I love pink, but I felt it was too much with no other color to rest my eyes. I added this lace that worked (until I accidently put it in the washer! Argh!) Anyways, the point was: Add color or subtract color, by adding something that tones it down :)

DIY Tribal Leggings

I was really diggin' the tribal leggings for kids and wanted some for Story but never really was fond of the price. I came across some clothes I wasn't making use of, and it dawned on me-- the fabric was exactly what I would like for Story's leggings! So, plugged in the handy-dandy sewing machine and made some for her. Not a penny was used. Jackpot!

1. Decide on a vase you want to decorate.
2. Use tape to make straight rows-like painters tape or any that don't leave any sticky residue.
3. Use a permanent marker that works well on glass and make sure the shading is to your liking.
4. Decorate in between rows (due to the shape of my vase, my mustaches decreased in size as I drew towards base).
5. Remove tape and use for freshly cut flowers or a nice succulent--or whatever you like :)
